This engagement shoot is of Monica and Matt from Texas. It took place at their favourite bar, Bar America and ended in the beautiful gardens of La Villita. This shoot is full of love and a very funny proposal story to go with it!
Thank you to Laura of Laura Elizabeth Photography for submitting this beautiful engagement shoot to us. We hope you enjoy reading Monica and Matt’s proposal story as much as we did!
How did you both meet?
Monica – “Our moms worked together at Southwestern Bell (now AT&T), I knew of him because our moms were and still are such good friends. I went to “take your child to work day” as a senior in high school with my younger sister who was a freshman, guess who just had to show up as if he had any interest in what our moms did at work in their cubicles. It wasn’t love at first sight, I had a boyfriend but as soon as that relationship ended our first year in college, I called Matt and we have been having fun together ever since.”
Tell us about your proposal?
“This makes me laugh cause it’s not romantic at all but it’s so us. We are a rather social couple I think, we hardly plan things alone because we are surrounded by awesome friends and family. It was a Friday night after a long work week, his sister in law who never goes out with us without her husband (Matt’s brother) asked me what I was up to and wanted to get some dinner and drinks until her husband got out of work. I tell Matt we are going to Sushi Zushi happy hour (not knowing I’m ruining any plans he may have had), Matt was included in the dinner plans so all 3 of us went out to eat together. That turned into meeting up with his brother after he got out of work at a bar to watch the Spurs game.”
“More friends met us of course, a group of them actually coming in from Devine to go out so of course me thinking it’s a typical Friday night I want to stay out longer and we go to another bar (again not knowing I’m ruining any plans). Matt kept trying to go home which I found odd but didn’t think much of it. So at about 2am after the bar closes Matt said he would have to stop by his mom‘s for something. I was hungry and wanted one of the awesome sandwiches he makes for me at his mom‘s so I’m all about stopping there. I’m actually excited because I hadn’t had one of these sandwiches in a while. I go to the bathroom, come out into the kitchen to find him on one knee holding up a ring and I nearly fainted! I cry and say yes and when I calmed down a little I ask about the sandwich, turns out he lied to me and there was no “sandwich stuff”. Guess he just couldn’t wait another day!”
Can you reveal anything about your wedding?
“It was so fun and filled with the amazing friends and family that we love! I like to call it a “beautiful mess” cause although it was busy and hectic and all a blur it had some really special moments that I will never forget. ‘Til this day I have people tell me how much fun the wedding was, which is basically what Matt and I are all about!”
