For the first time in it’s history, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Swan, Shakespeare’s Globe, is opening its doors to invite couples to exchange their wedding vows in its stunning candlelit interior, beneath ornately painted ceiling and carved balconies.
Mirroring the architecture of the first indoor theatres in the 17th century, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is an intimate space, illuminated solely by candlelight, and a truly unique location for wedding ceremonies. The perfect setting for any Shakespeare fan, this historic venue will only be available to book for a maximum of three wedding ceremonies a year – making it one of the most original and exclusive venues in which to host your wedding in London.
This Jacobean-style playhouse is housed within the Shakespeare’s Globe complex and is a functioning theatre, regularly hosting productions by the Globe’s company. The theatre will be available for wedding parties of up to 300 who also wish to hold their wedding breakfast or wedding celebration in either the Balcony Room or Underglobe.
Located in close proximity to both London Bridge and Blackfriars stations, Swan, Shakespeare’s Globe features a large open plan bar downstairs, and restaurant upstairs, furnished throughout in an elegantly simple and comfortable style. The venue showcases the best of classic British dishes, with a contemporary twist. Situated on Bankside, overlooking the River Thames, this all-day restaurant, bar and private events space boasts unrivalled views across St Paul’s Cathedral and the City of London.
