If you follow our real wedding articles regularly, you’ll notice we love outdoor weddings. There’s something about hosting your reception outside in the summer that is simply perfect! This lovely summer wedding of Holly and Alistair was hosted at Trading Boundaries in East Sussex. The style of the wedding was laid back and relaxed with an English countryside theme to the day.
Thank you to Tim Hensel for sending us this beautiful wedding! We asked Tim a little bit more about Holly and Alistair’s special day…
Tim: “I’ve known Holly since shortly before I was born, so it was a special one for me to photograph her wedding. It was also back in Sussex, where I originally come from. So that was nice.
I loved the simple style, everything is done their way, no highly polished hotels or overdone details. Just relaxed, old friends and family. They’re very much a couple who go their own way!
Given the personal connection, I actually make a very brief appearance in the Fusion Movie, as does my dad. This is as it should be.”
Your love story…
Holly: “We met on a dating website. After our first date I was very keen to see him again and luckily he felt the same. He proposed within three months.”
How did you arrange your wedding?
“We had the same ideas about where we wanted to get married and how we wanted the whole day to feel. We both felt we wanted as much of the day as possible to be outdoors and for it to feel natural and relaxed. We each had areas that we arranged ourselves but consulted each other at every step.”
What did you both wear?
“I wore a vintage ivory late 1960’s dress which I found at Hope & Harlequin in Brighton. It was simple but elegant and just needed a couple of adjustments which they did for me at the shop. I borrowed shoes from a friend who had worn them at her own wedding. Alistair wore a Liberty print shirt with a dark green jacket and trousers and a matching tie. The waistcoat and shoes, he already owned.”
What ceremony venue did you choose?
“We chose Lewes for the ceremony. We had been to a wedding there recently and we both liked the town and its castle.”
Was the day how you imagined?
“The day was better than I could possibly have imagined!
Having our 18-month-old daughter at our wedding helped to make the day especially memorable and created beautiful moments that we could not possibly have planned. We would not change a thing.”
What advice would you give to other couples?
“Don’t try to please everyone – it’s your day!”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We went camping in Dorset with our daughter for a few days.”
