Planning Your Perfect Reception Party

What better way to celebrate your marriage and the start of your new life together then having an amazing reception party with your nearest and dearest? Here are a few of my ideas and inspirations for making your reception totally unique to you!

winter-wedding-manzanita-branch-centerpiece-bob-and-dawn-davisCake: Who says your wedding cake has to be a cake?! I have seen couple who chose to cut into a warm apple pie on their big day! From lemon and lime, apple and cinnamon to chocolate orange sponges, the options are endless. Or if you don’t have a sweet tooth how about a wedding cake made of tiers of different cheeses? Send your cake designers pictures of what you like, whether it is images, colours, flavours or textures. This will really help them to create something which is entirely individual to you.

Décor & centrepieces: The décor for your reception will set the mood for the evening. Rather than just going for a single colour scheme, try bringing complementing tones together for a seamless look. Colours such as cream, coral and  blue work beautifully for a Summer reception. When it comes to centrepieces, whilst flowers can look beautifully simple, incorporating candlelight will create a soft and romantic look. If you are going for a particular theme, your centrepieces can really bring this to life. A Winter Wonderland theme would look brilliant with white branches draped with crystals or fairy lights or perhaps an Asian theme with a lavish lotus inspired centrepiece?

Catering: Your guests will remember your reception by how good the food was! Don’t be afraid to try something different. Think about your favourite foods and how could you bring them into your menu. Instead of the usual sit down meal, why not have stalls with different cuisines so guests can enjoy freshly made-to-order dishes? For desert, a mini ice cream parlour with a choice of different toppings would go down a treat!

Wedding favours: A wedding favour can either be a special keepsake or something your guests can enjoy on the night. Personalised cupcakes with guests names can also double up as ‘escort cards’ if you include their table number. Individual fortune cookies are a great way to share personalised messages with your friends and family. Or you can keep it simple with mini chocolates, sweets or cookies in jars or boxes of your chosen colour scheme. If you prefer something that your guests can take home with them, how about mini his & hers soaps or perfumes of your favourite scents?

Rose_B_1march10_320x480DJ: A DJ is not just a man with decks anymore.. they come with lasers, projected images, indoor fireworks and the rest! To ensure your guests are entertained all evening, let your DJ know exactly what you want in terms of the music played and the timings of your event; the first dance, when the meals are to be served and so on. Include songs which are special to you as a couple and ones that bring back some great memories.

Guestbook: Whilst a simple guestbook will capture your guests’ well wishes, there are many ways that your guests can leave messages for   you on your special day. You may wish to have a photo frame of the two of you and your guests are able to engrave their names and messages directly onto the frame. Another option is to have wish notes. Your guests can write a wish on a small piece of paper then put it into an envelope and place this into a glass container. Or they can tie their messages with ribbon onto a wishing tree. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to make it personal to you.
