This engagement shoot is full of love, beautiful countryside and urban city. The perfect mix for a shoot! Meet Travis and Sally, they are a young couple from Iowa and met in high school. They waited until after college to get engaged!
We asked their photographer, Brandy Swartz a little bit about the inspiration behind the engagement shoot, “We got together on a warm Spring night to capture their engagement shoots at a variety of locations that are near and dear to their relationship. First, we began in Travis’s backyard including their pups and the porch swing that Travis made himself with, what will soon be both of their last name, “Boyer”, engraved into the front of it.”
“Next, we made a quick stop in downtown Fort Madison, Iowa. If I were to choose one thing that I totally love about Iowa, it would be the desolation and pure historic character whipped together into intriguing yet quiet locations that turn out to be the completely imperfect yet perfect photographic spots.”
“Finally, we drove out a few miles into the country, trying to beat the sunset, to Travis’s family farm. Immediately, I took in my surroundings while driving down the long lane, taking mental notes of the spots I wanted to utilise. Expecting a typical Iowan farmhouse at the end, I was delightfully surprised to find the exact opposite. An architecturally modern home and pond house sat on stunning land overlooking the most magnificent of views and calm pond. After an abundance of photos, we ended the night with driving back out towards the entrance just in time to get some romantic shots while the sun set.”
Thank you to Brandy Swarts Photography for sharing this beautiful engagement shoot and story with us. We can’t wait to see the images from the wedding later this year! Enjoy!
How did you meet?
Sally – “Travis and I have been together for 6 years. We’ve known each other for about 10 years. We meet while we were in middle school. Towards the end of high school, we started dating.”
Tell us about the proposal…
“Travis proposed to me my senior year at Coe College. He surprised me on a Thursday evening in April. I was putting laundry away in my bedroom and listening to music with my roommates. I noticed the music had changed and heard a guitar and thought “that’s not the radio”. It sounds too good! Little did I know it was actually Travis. I walked to my bedroom doorway to find Travis singing a song he wrote to propose to me. I was completely choked up (way more than he was nervous!) He ends the song with Sally will you marry me? I get yes out as I’m crying and trying to keep it together. He pulls out an absolutely beautiful ring and puts it on my finger! And then we were engaged! In the year we have been engaged he will randomly start singing that song again and it fills my stomach with butterflies just like the first time.”
Can you tell us anything about your wedding?
“We are getting married in the church I grew up in Fort Madison, Iowa in the middle of August. We are planning to have a celebration with our friends and family afterwards in West Point, IA at the American Legion. We are excited to be celebrating our marriage right where we grew up with our closest friends and family and having a great day becoming Mr and Mrs Boyer!”
