Today we are very excited to share the beautiful wedding of Jessica and Shaughn at The Groome Inn, North Carolina. It’s full of personal touches including those baseball bats! Also, check out that amazing entrance down the stairs. Such a great idea!
Thank you to Yasmin of Yasmin Leonard Photography for sharing this wedding with us. Yasmin said, “Jessica and Shaughn were the sweetest couple to work with and uber photogenic! Their smiles were just contagious! Jessica allowed each of her bridesmaids to pick their own dress which made for the most beautiful bridal party.
Shaughn, a huge baseball fan, gifted each of his groomsmen personalized bats with their nickname and lucky number.”
Your love story
Jessica – “Well, we met thru Tinder. To me, it’s laughable considering the type of hopeless romantic I consider myself. You just don’t see that in classic love stories. However, he was the perfect gentleman suggesting lunch which set him apart from the other 99.5% of mates you’d think you’d find on Tinder.
If you ask Shaughn, he’d say it was love at first joke! I was in after he knew I had a true appreciation for his humor. We could have sat and talked forever that day at lunch.
It’s the time in between the first time you meet someone and the time that you say I do that really matters. We really got to experience a lot together in a short amount of time. We got do family holidays, friend holidays/events, trips near and far, sort out family quirks, and identified areas where we decided to grow together to be the best version of ourselves for each other. Needless to say, we know there are great times and hard times ahead in our future but we know that we’ll handle them together in a healthy way.
The proposal was one for the record books! He got me good!!! I knew a proposal was coming because we picked out the ring together. However, I didn’t know it was coming so soon. I thought we were just going to dinner to celebrate our 1yr anniversary. When he arrived to pick me up, of course, I wasn’t ready. I needed help choosing a dress to wear. He chose the white one which I was oblivious to at the time. He took us to the restaurant where we first met. We parked in the same park that I had parked in a year before. We instantly started reminiscing about that day we met as we got out of the car. How he looked, how I looked, where he was standing and how I walked away. As we got to the entrance, Shaughn said “when I first saw you it was your eyes that got me, and then it was your smile but I wasn’t sure until I saw you walk away and I said ‘that butt though’. That first day, we could have talked forever and I knew we had something special. We make a great team but I want to make it official, Will you be my forever and marry me?” …and I said, “YES”. It was amazing!!!! We had our moment and then the photographer came out! I was so excited to have this moment captured forever. I hugged the photographer who is also one of my closest friends…cried and then regrouped. She snapped a few more pictures and then went into the restaurant. He’d invited our immediate families and they were all cheering. The whole restaurant was cheering actually. Shaughn was jumping up and down with excitement as servers and hostesses gathered around us cheering, some crying. I was starting to piece together that he’d been planning this elaborate day. After dinner, I thought we were going to walk around downtown and watch fireworks for the 4th. He wanted to hang out at Natty Greene’s until they started. We walked up to the 3rd floor, typically reserved for parties, and I was like “I don’t think we can go up here,” he assured me that we could. So, I thought they’d opened their 3rd floor to the public. Wrong, he’d rented the room and invited all of our closest friends. We went in and everyone started cheering again. Another celebration!! It was amazing! All of it. Every second. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”
What did you both wear?
“I wore a simple sweetheart fit and flare gown from Diva’s boutique in Greensboro, NC. It was a classic satin with an embellished belt and buttons down the back. Shaughn wore a navy tux from VIP rentals. He wore a blush bow tie with navy suspenders.”
What venue did you choose?
“Shaughn found the venue online and it looked perfect!!! When we visited we knew it was our place! Simple and naturally charming.”
Was the day how you imagined?
“The day was better than I imagined. There was one funny moment when my uncle stole me away from my dad during our father-daughter dance. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. It surprised me and my dad and broke up the song and proved entertaining to the guests! Him stealing me speaks of their relationship growing up, always a competition but always loving and wanting to have a good time!”
What advice would you give to other couples?
“Plan everything so that you have time to relax and spend the week prior to your wedding, not finishing the weddings final tasks, but instead spending it with your loved ones. This allows you to be well rested and the head space to really soak in everything around you.”
