If you’ve ever dreamt of transporting yourself to a log cabin surrounded by lakes and forests, The Lakes by Yoo is perfect! This is a luxury 850-acre private estate in the Cotswolds, just 90 minutes from London. An escape from city life to a secluded country retreat.
The estate is mainly made up of privately owned homes and 16 of these are available for holiday rentals. With these holiday rentals dotted across the site, you have a choice of being in the woodland or on the waterfront. Yes, that is a very tough choice so you may just have to stay at both!
Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front gate and presented with directions to the Barnhouse. It is only when you get a map to follow you realise the size of the estate! We headed down to the Barnhouse and was greeted by a member of the team and welcomed into our home away from home in the woods. After a quick show around of this huge house, it was time to have a proper in-depth look around.
The Barnhouse is a contemporary house with a traditional agricultural look with a modern twist. Honestly, I could easily live here!
What makes the Barnhouse unique is that it features interior design by Kate Moss. Her retro colourful styling is seen throughout the house, from the wallpaper right down to the hand-crafted furniture. In the entrance hall, you’re greeted with stunning artwork by Damien Hirst, The Chapmans and many others.
The Barnhouse features 5 individually styled bedrooms, all with en-suites. Obviously, the best bedroom is the Master Suite. Heading upstairs and walking into the room, you have the large en-suite bathroom to the left and straight ahead, the bedroom overlooking the lounge area. With floor to ceiling glass, this floods light in from the lounge into the bedroom.
The centrepiece of the house is the large open-plan kitchen, diner and lounge with sunlight flooding in from the floor to ceiling glass at one end and windows along the side. With a large log fire billowing out heat, this room is comfy yet spacious. Doors at the front and on the side open up onto a wrap around deck and lead out to the heated pool. Overlooking the decking is the modern TV/Play Room with comfy sofas which is the perfect place to relax in the evening.
When we visited, it was early November so was a bit chilly and couldn’t enjoy the outside spaces much, except for the heated pool which we made full use of! The house is surrounded by trees so you’re hidden away in your own plot of land. With so many places to spend outside from the grass, the decking and upstairs on the balcony, you’re spoilt for choice on where to dine, relax with friends or enjoy your favourite book.
Before our arrival, the concierge team very kindly stocked our fridge with food and drink for us to enjoy during our stay. The kitchen is fully equipt with everything you need. At one end of the main open-plan space, you can cook and still enjoy conversations with friends and family. The one choice you have is where to sit down and eat, the main dining table, beside the pool or even upstairs on the terrace? As it was cold outside, we stuck to dining at the huge dining table.
If you’re staying for your honeymoon and don’t wish to spend time in the kitchen, the concierge team can book a personal chef that will cater delicious food during your stay. The team can also make local restaurant bookings if you fancy a romantic evening out.
When we visited, there was still some construction work taking place. Such as finishing one of the lakes and building new homes. However, this didn’t stop our enjoyment of the surrounding nature!
The estate sits amongst 9 lakes with many activities taking places around them. You can head to the sailing club and take to the water, take out a little boat from the boating pontoon or if you’re feeling adventurous, ride the zip wire across the lake.
For an exclusive wedding venue unlike any other, the Barnhouse can also be rented out as your very own wedding venue. The team can help with all the arrangements of the day from the catering to booking in pre-wedding spa treatments. For ceremony and receptions, the Barnhouse can host up to 30 guests. The spacious garden also offers the perfect place for a tipi, offering a bohemian style wedding day surrounded by the tall trees.
The Barnhouse exceeded my expectations in both a honeymoon and wedding venue aspect. I can completely recommend staying here for a minimoon just after your big day or even the honeymoon itself. With more activities opening on the estate over the coming months, the Lakes by Yoo is already a desirable place to stay and will be in high demand!
