Godminster Cheese

Supplier spotlight

Who doesn't love cheese? Every time we visit The National Wedding Show, you'll see us buying cheese from Godminster's stand. Why? It's absolutely delicious! It's our favourite cheese and can highly recommend them for your wedding. You and your guests won't be disappointed!

We've taken a few moments out to ask Godminster all about their brand and the service they provide to engaged couples. Thank you Godminster for taking part!

Who are you, and what do you do? And why do you do it?

We’re Godminster, best known for our iconic burgundy heart-shaped cheese! We have a beautiful farm set on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Bruton in the heart of Somerset. With 1300 acres of beautiful countryside, the farm is home to a growing herd of organic dairy cows and boasts fruitful orchards filled with a variety of delicious fruits and herbs which inspire for many of our Godminster products.

As passionate cheesemakers, we wanted to showcase the amazing cheeses that are made within the UK and put together a real British artisan cheese wedding cake!

From the carefully selected cheeses to the stunning award winning presentation, we know exactly how to create the perfect cheese wedding cake and we’re pretty proud of the results!

What makes you unique? How do you stand out from the crowd?

“Nature repays those who treat her kindly” is our mantra and when it comes to the farm we know that the most important thing is to keep a happy and healthy herd.

Since the farm was registered as organic in 1999, this motto has been the guiding idea that informs everything we do. Owner and founder Richard Hollingbery and our small dedicated team work hard to farm in ways that are sympathetic to our environment and keep our herd fit and healthy. This ensures we have deliciously creamy milk to produce our iconic Vintage Organic Cheddar and handmade Organic Brie range.

When it comes to our award-winning cheese cake we know that we’ve put together the perfect cheeseboard that will make a great centrepiece for any event.

When did the company start?

Godminster Farm first turned organic in 1999 and the first Vintage Organic Cheddar was produced not long after in 2000. We added a range of handmade artisan Organic Brie in 2013 and started doing cheese wedding cakes around the same time – since then the trend has simply soared and we are one of the most popular choices of wedding cheese cakes.

What inspires you? Who in the industry do you look up to?

We admire other fantastic local producers who have the same ethos we do. This includes our fellow cheesemakers who help us to create our glorious wedding cake!

Do you let trends influence the products you stock/ service you provide?

When it comes to other wedding trends we’re inspired by the authenticity of all things natural. We’re passionate about the countryside and being able to bring as much natural inspiration from the farm and our Somerset countryside is a big part of who we are and what we do.

The trend we have enjoyed being part of is for alternative wedding cakes. Brides are looking for something unique to share with their guests. Our wedding cake serves as a beautiful cake/centrepiece but also a very cost effect buffet item or cheese course! It certainly becomes a talking point as its still seen as relatively unique.

What is your greatest achievement to date?

We’re extremely proud of the awards we’ve achieved over the years and our Celebration & Wedding Cheese Cake was actually awarded a silver for ‘Best Wedding Cheese Cake’ at the Global Cheese Awards!

What do you see as the future of your Company?

Over the last decade, we have created and restored numerous natural habitats and native species have returned. Our aim at Godminster Farm is to create a self-sustaining environment where nature can regenerate and flourish.

As for our cheese towers, the future looks bright and we’re taking bookings several years into the future… we don’t think the cheese wedding cake trend is going to go away anytime soon!
