Health benefits of Aloe Vera

by Libby Limon

Over the past few weeks, we've been trying a range of Simplee Aloe products. Aloe Vera is well known for its health benefits so we were very excited to try some of the new range of products.

Available to purchase are the 330ml drinks (great for on the go), 1-litre versions of the drinks and a liquid supplement. All of these contain aloe vera which is produced from the inner leaf gel, with no preservatives, added sugar or bits.

The 330ml drinks are possibly our favourite! They are so easy to drink, contains your entire RDA of aloe vera and absolutely delicious. Alternatively, there's the liquid supplement that comes in original aloe vera flavour and also cranberry. A recommended serving is around 45-90ml per day (around 7 teaspoons). This is so easy and quick to get your full RDA of aloe vera.

The supplement can also be used in smoothies

We asked Libby Limon, a London based Nutritional Therapist why Aloe Vera is the ultimate wellbeing solution for brides to be...

Energy

Regulating blood sugar levels is key when it comes to maintaining energy and vitality. Aloe Vera has been shown to have blood sugar balancing effects, helping us to cope with the stresses of wedding planning while also ensuring we get a good night’s sleep.

Getting a ‘healthy glow’

My favourite thing about aloe is that it increases the body’s bioavailability to absorb other key nutrients such as vitamin C and E – the vitamins that help us to get clear and glowing skin. This means Aloe has an enhancing effect on your overall nutrition from other foods, supercharging a healthy diet. It’s thought to be the reason why having aloe every day can lead to an overall ‘glow’.

Immune system

The last thing you want when preparing for a wedding is a cold. Aloe Vera can help the immune system to strike the right balance between recognising and fighting invading viruses and bacteria, but not overreacting (which can cause intolerance or allergy type symptoms). It works in the liver too, protecting it and supporting detoxification.

Digestion and bloating

The anti-inflammatory effect of Aloe is another key highlight. Chronic inflammation can often go unnoticed in our daily lives, but, in the short term, causes uncomfortable stomach upsets, and in the long term shifts the body towards damage and disease. Our modern diets and lifestyles including saturated fats, pollution, alcohol and over the counter drugs shift us towards an inflammatory state. Shifting the balance back with dietary anti-inflammatories such as Aloe, can influence how we feel today and lower risk of diseases of the future such as cancer and heart disease.

I would recommend you add a little Aloe to your diet every day, especially combined with a nutrient dense meal such as delicious smoothie to get the most from its nutritional benefits as it supercharges what is absorbed from other foods.
