“It was honestly a dream come true to finally marry the love of my life after 12 years of being together”.

Your love story

We met in high school in grade 10, I’m not sure about Alan but to me, it was definitely love at first sight. I remember Alan and his 2 friends walking down the hall and when I first saw him I thought, he’s going to be my boyfriend. The proposal happened on a Monday when I was waiting for Alan to pick me up to go on a lunch date and he had rung the doorbell, when I answered the door he had gotten down on one knee.

How did you arrange your wedding?

I had mostly arranged the wedding, as most brides usually do. I would let Alan know what I was doing and what I was up to but all of the decision-making was pretty much up to me.

What did you both wear?

I wore a beautiful princess dress with a corset back finished with beautiful crystal and sequins in the front. Alan had a dark grey suit paired with a dark grey bow tie.

What venue did you choose?

We went with Golden Rice Bowl and decided to do the ceremony there since everyone would be able to attend at night. We chose this venue because the food is great.

Was the day how you imagined?

The day went by smoothly. I think the one thing I didn’t expect was receiving all of the love and support from family and friends. There was definitely a lot of love in the air and it was really great to have all of our family gathered and all dressed up nicely just to see us on our wedding day.

The only thing I would have done differently would be to know ahead of time and actually get some more sleep. I was exhausted by the beginning of it. The funny moments were definitely the door games in the morning before the tea ceremony.

What advice would you give to other couples?

Take it easy and slow. There will be things that won’t go your way, just remember to breathe and take it easy. You will always find a solution to the problem so don’t get too worked up when things don’t go smoothly. Always remember the reason why you’re getting married, which is to be with each other because you love them. Have a good time and try to enjoy the day as stressful as it may be. And pack some real food along the way, you will get hungry for sure.

Where did you go for your honeymoon?

We will be going to Japan at the end of March/beginning of April. Alan and I have always wanted to go to Japan just to see what the culture is like on that side of the world. We are going at that time because of their famous cherry blossom festivals when the trees bloom.
